transmissions from Babyland

We are still deep in adjustment to life with a newborn! Loving these chubby chubby cheeks and alert little eyes (and loving naptime a LOT too). We're all very tired but starting to get a teensy hint of what it will be like to leave the house, get back to work, etc, as things fall more into place.

Here are some videos of cuteness that I can't help sharing as a proud mom:

Happy Weekend! Enjoy your families and the springtime.

welcome to the world, Symphony Susanna Rose!

She's here!!!

We are so happy and proud to introduce Symphony Susanna Rose, our beautiful, sweet daughter.

She was born Sunday April 18th, 2010 at 12:35pm, in Santa Rosa, California. 6 pounds, 2 ounces and 19.7 inches - but she is already up in her weight since birth (usually newborns lose some weight in their first week) and is so happy, healthy, gentle, and amazing! She is a fabulous nurser, makes the sweetest cooing baby sounds, and rarely cries. Everyone agrees she is perfect, healthy, gorgeous, and so lovable.

We are head over heels in love, and are taking some good time to rest, recover, and enjoy our family bonding time. Thank you for all of the support, love, and well wishing! There are sure to be MANY more photos coming soon, and we hope to be open for visits from friends and family soon.

Jessamyn, Devon, and sweet Symphony.

(The first two fantastic photos were taken by my friend Michelle, who is a great photographer, and whose website is http://www.feileacan.com/. She is available for a bit longer if you need a photographer, but since she's about 30 weeks pregnant, get her while you can!)

"The word symphony derives from Greek συμφωνία, meaning "agreement or concord of sound"... from σύμφωνος, "harmonious"." "Harmony, especially of sound or color... Something characterized by a harmonious combination of elements."

And here is a song I've had in my head for months:

I'm still here... 41.5 weeks

I'm pretty sure this will be my last post before the baby is born. I'm scheduling it to self publish, so hopefully I will have her before you even see this! But... apparently the timing of when the babies are born is one of life and science's biggest mysteries. I have never been prone to so much superstition, wonder, and waiting in my life. There are some great lessons about patience, anticipation, living in the moment, happening for us... sometimes I am happily open to them, and sometimes I want to pull my hair out a little bit.

So far no amount of wishing, hoping, begging, bribery, or anything else we can think of has led to labor. But I know lots of babies, especially first babies, go to 42 weeks or more, so I'm not losing hope! Occasionally it's hard not to think of the impending birth as an "if", rather than a "when". That "when" is soon... it just has to be.

(Although a good friend told me she googled "longest human pregnancy" to try to make me feel better about there being an ending point somewhere, and recommended that I NOT do the same.)

See you on the other side!

more kitty cat photos

No signs of the baby yet... I'll try to update once she's here! In the meantime... I'm scheduling some blog posts, and I'm learning patience in a way that I never knew existed ;)

And I am still checking my email and phones, here and there. So as long as you're not calling or writing to go, "is that baby STILL not born?!", I'd love to hear from you!

The cats are waiting patiently to greet their sister:

(yes, our kitties get a lot of glamour shots)

Love this one. Not the brightest tool in the shed!

Beach day with Devon

Just a few silly film shots from a beach day back in February.

This is not a good picture of seals... but I couldn't stop just smiling and laughing watching them and their cuteness. So, the picture goes up anyway!
