Jocelyn and Pat came out to SF from Ohio for their private, City Hall wedding, and hired me to be their photographer. They told me (as I so often hear) that they're not big fans of having their photo taken, and don't usually feel comfortable in front of the camera. I was reassuring - I deal with this feeling all of the time! - and had a wonderful time meeting them, photographing their beautiful City Hall ceremony, and then playing tour guide a bit. I drove them around town for a few hours, telling them everything I could think of about my beloved San Francisco (maybe more than they bargained for), and photographed them in a few iconic SF places.
Once I got to editing the shoot, I found that I had hundreds of favorites to narrow down, and that I really hardly had to delete any shots due to "awkward" or in between faces! I probably had less to edit down than usual. So, if these guys wanted a beautiful, simple, SF wedding, and some cool, personal portraits, then: mission accomplished! I am so happy with how they turned out.
Hard to imagine a more beautiful place to get married, right?
First we drove to the ruins of the Sutro Baths by Ocean Beach, where Jocelyn and Pat learned about the many microclimates (mostly foggy) within San Francisco. This one's too cold! But so pretty :)
I took a detour to Baker Beach on our way to the Palace of Fine Arts - more fog, but you can (sort of) see the Golden Gate Bridge! I love playing tour guide to my favorite city in the world.
Pat had never seen the Pacific Ocean before. So before we left, he had to run down to touch the water. That made me smile!
Next - to the Palace of Fine Arts, where there was a nice mix of sun and cloud cover. On this day, about 50 miles north, it was in the 80s or 90s. Here in San Francisco... it probably ranged from 60 to 80.
I love that Pat couldn't stop hugging and kissing his new wife! He was literally sweeping her off her feet.
A sweet note from Jocelyn:
"Jessamyn,
You just made my week. Really. This week has sucked and these are awesome!! I love all of them... These are just beyond amazing.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!"
Thank YOU! I always love weddings at SF City Hall - it brings to mind my own wedding to wonderful Devon there, as well as so many other historic, beautiful, and sweet weddings!
I'd like to end on this shot that was not setup - I was just lucky enough to catch Pat leaping for joy at the right moment. Happy day!

Amy and Brent on Elizabeth Anne Designs
The lovely blog, Elizabeth Anne Designs, featured Amy and Brent's November 1st, 2008, wedding today! Since it's been about 90 degrees outside, I'm going to pretend it was that pouring-rain cool autumn day once again :)
